LATHANDER ESTATE
est. 1927
┗━━━━━༻❁༺━━━━━┛
Almost 100 years in the making, Lathander Estate sits on 50 acres of fresh green land with winding rivers and breezy forests located right at the border of upstate New York and Canada. This property has a 16 stall main barn, with countless pastures that have options for both individual or group. A large indoor arena is connected directly to the barn so horses and riders aren't exposed to the elements. An outdoor arena, round pen, trails, and a cross country course are scattered throughout the property as well.
Going all the way back to 1927, a legacy was slowly in the making. Starting out as a family business, the Lathander family had begun producing their own line of horses. At this point breeds of all origins had made their way through the barn doors, with a high focus on Warmbloods and Thoroughbreds. However, in 1994, a new face had showed up on their radar- a stout breed named The Szívelova, otherwise known as the "Teddy Cob". Their versatile nature and strong build inspired the Lathander's to peruse this breed further.
Beginning their journey with a handful of mares and a few stallions, Lathander Estate quickly grew accustomed with the culture surrounding these ponies. Colorful ribbons were braided into all of the Cob's hair and often stayed for weeks until it needed to be braided again. Straying slightly from their breeding program, Lathander Cobs began making a name for themselves across the country. People would arrive from across states to get to know these ponies better, touring the estate and learning the history.
Starting in the late 2000's, Lathander Estate had slowly slimmed down their stock to a more manageable number. The owners grew older and weren't able to handle the upkeep, but they didn't want to abandon the breed entirely. Come 2011, a bright new face showed interest in managing the stable portion of the estate. At just 18 years old, Julia Finley took on the roll of management and became the face of the Lathander Equestrian Center.
Now in 2025, Julia has steadily grown their numbers back up, resulting in a resumed breeding and training program. Lathander Stables prides themselves of the horses they produce, focusing on the versatility and sturdiness this breed possesses. While this facility is private, through its training programs it gives students a chance to enroll in an education that allows both rider and horse to connect and benefit from each other.
