Voltar gently laughed at Dusty Miller as he watched the gelding run through the pasture. He shifted some, stepping closer before whistling; the horse tossed his head before trotting over. His eyes bright and shimmering as he approached the avian, it wasn't as fun as the wild horses; Dusty Miller, being a bit young, wasn't even out with the herds quite yet, having heeled from his gelding. Voltar gently reached his hand out, softly scratching at the horse's face before going to draw him a bit closer. Dusty Miller snorted, throwing his head and bouncing away with a loud nicker, obviously amused by Voltar's attempts to get the ribbon into his mane. Voltar tried not to laugh, almost rolling over the fence, following the movement that the horse gave.
"Come on, I've known you since you were a foal! I know I might not get you, but you can at least let me tie in the ribbon so I can try!" Voltar cried; he was barely old enough to ride, according to his parents. He had just turned 13 and had found a cow horse, something he believed would be perfect for helping him with his cattle. Something he could show off to Cascade, something he would be able to do everything with.
Dusty Miller was it.
He grinned, hoping the fence, almost chasing after the excitable geldling, trying not to trip as he bounced towards the shelter he was staying in for a moment, Voltar nearly running as he grabbed at his tail. When Dusty Miller finally slowed up, Voltar rushed to slide the ribbon into his hair, gently scratching and leaning to give him a firm hug around the neck. Voltar drew back.
"I'm going to do my best to bring you home, even if that ribbon falls out, so you better just hang on to it for me, okay?" The question was soft and playful as the pairing settled down into the pasture, planning to take a break from the play, Voltar scratching at him. He hoped that when the gelding was released into the wilds, he would return with the ribbon, something Cascade had made for him to tie into his favored horse's mane. He smiled. He knew that he would.
Under the summer sun, the pairing took a nap, counting down the possible minutes until they might be able to meet again.
