Fuzzy Bear Attempt One
I woke up with a jolt of excitement rushing through my veins, causing me to shoot straight up from my bed. Today was the day I would try to get a Teddy Cob of my own! My uncle finally agreed, with much nagging, to let me visit and particiapte in the culture. It had been a long time coming, but I was going to make this day perfect. I do not want to risk this chance going wrong, as taming any feral or wild horse is a dangerous task in itself. But, I could only hope everything goes well. Preparing myself, mentally and physically, can only do so much compared to the actual moment. I let myself sit in bed for a moment, checking my phone for notifications, until I got up to start my exciting day.
As my uncle drove me to the plains, I idly wondered to myself about what could happen. What would happen. The possibilities seemed limitless when I thought about it months and months beforehand, but now it feels so much more real. My uncle must have noticed how lost in thought I was, and as gruff and lazy as he was, he asked how I was doing. He was always kind to her, he just had a very blunt and strange way of showing it at times. But, he's been in my life enough that I knew his traits.
Finally, we pulled up to the plains my uncle said he personally liked getting his Teddy Cobs at. The horse I used to ride, Lucy, was a Teddy Cob my uncle got from this very spot allegedly. As I stepped out of the truck with my uncle, I felt like I was somewhere familiar. The nerves that were rushing and coursing through my body settled down, all of my anxieties quieting as I took in the environment. My uncle smiled, giving me a pat on my shoulder and looking at me like he knew I had it all along. We walked together, with my uncle leading the way, deeper into the plains. When suddenly, a rustle came from the bushes.
A horse! An actual Teddy Cob appeared from the bushes, shaking out the sticks and leaves from its thick and wooly hide. It was a small horse, with brown wool that seemed as plush as one of the plushies that sat on my own bed. His eyes looked gentle, a deep, dark black that looked like it could quell any worries if I looked in them long enough. He looked like a calm soul and my heart tugged at him. My uncle pressed a bell into my palm, with some words of reassurance. I got this.
I walked over to it calmly, as it seemed curious and friendly enough to approach her and her uncle to begin with. After all, he defintely spotted them first. It was time for me to take the initiative. With the bell in my hand, I reached out to it, careful not to make any loud noises on accident to scare him off. After all, wild horses, as docile as they might seem at times, can be unpredictably dangerous. But, I know my uncle was looking out for me, which gave me the confidence to walk over. I got this.
The horse sniffed the bell, rubbing his lips against my hand first before actually making contact with it. Although it tickled, I was careful not to move my hand drastically. I kept telling myself to calm down and not get too excited. Again, I do not want to scare the horse. His lips peeled back to gently nip the bell from my hand, seemingly interested in the shiny object now. Although, he looked a little startled that the bell made noise, ears pressed back for a moment before calming himself down. He seemed awfully intelligent too, as smart as he was curious. He titled his head, still charmed by the bell and she fought the urge to touch his wooly coat. The horse, with the bell still clamped in his mouth, walked away and disappeared back into the forest. Maybe this meant he would be okay with me trying again to befriend him. But, that would have to wait for another day.
